Mathematicians help to improve the federal device

Abstract

The paper reviews mathematicians' approach to the study of the actual problems of improving the federal device: the number of management levels, the number of subjects of federation and municipalities within the region, the size of the municipality. The paper considers the problem of distribution of responsibilities in the providing public goods through the levels of management. The article contains numerical calculations, based on the conventional data, as well as information about the actual indicators in a number of countries around the world.
